Stage 01 - Start
Build a business the next opportunity cannot disqualify.
Registration gaps, missing compliance and vague business plans do not announce themselves. They surface at the exact moment a bank, funder, tender desk or larger client asks a question you cannot answer cleanly. Start is where that gets fixed properly.
- Support and guidance, with the decisions kept in your hands
- Scope and deliverables written down before work starts
- Documents and certificates handed over in your name
The problem with foundations
Businesses rarely fail loudly. They stall quietly.
Most founders do not lose work because of a bad idea. They lose it because the entity is incomplete, the registrations are not in place, or there is no plan a funder can read.
Fix the foundation before it costs you a deal.

Signs the foundation is the thing holding you back
These are the situations owners describe to us most often before we look at anything else.
More than one sounds familiar? That is normal, and these problems are usually connected.

Support, not a stand-in
We guide the process. You stay in control of it.
We are not CIPC, SARS, an attorney or an accountant, and we never present ourselves as one. Where a decision needs legal, tax or financial advice, we say so and point you to the right professional.
- What each process genuinely requires, in plain language.
- Documents prepared and checked before submission.
- A clear list of what still needs your signature or your bank.
- Honest limits, stated up front rather than discovered later.
What changes once the foundation is in place?
Before Start
- Half-finished registration.
- Nobody sure which compliance items apply.
- No business plan a funder would accept.
- Opportunities lost on missing documents.
- Invoicing from a personal account.
After Start
- A registered entity with its documents in hand.
- Compliance items identified and addressed in order.
- A plan and financial model you can submit.
- Registrations that let you tender and supply.
- A business that can be checked without embarrassment.
This is a change in readiness, not a promised commercial result. Registration and compliance outcomes remain the decision of the relevant authority.

Who Start is for
Founders, informal traders and businesses formalising properly
Support is based on what the business needs next, not on how long it has existed.

That includes women-owned, youth-owned and PWD-owned businesses, and traders across the Cape Flats, rural areas and outlying communities. See who we support.
Where we work
Where we help businesses get started
We help founders register and formalise businesses across South Africa, from Cape Flats and Mitchells Plain startups to first-time owners in Mthatha, Kimberley and Beaufort West.

Malmesbury · Clanwilliam
Cape Winelands
Tourism, hospitality and food businesses competing for direct bookings rather than platform commissions.
Paarl · Franschhoek
Garden Route & Southern Cape
Community-rooted small businesses and accommodation providers in a visitor-driven regional economy.

Registration and compliance questions
Common questions about starting a business in South Africa
Short answers here, with the full detail on each service page.
Company registration runs through CIPC: reserve a name, lodge the registration documents, then register the company for income tax. We prepare and submit the paperwork and hand over the certificate and supporting documents. The registration decision always rests with CIPC.
Straightforward registrations are often completed within a few working days once the required information and identity documents are in, though CIPC turnaround varies. We tell you what is outstanding rather than leaving you guessing.
An income tax number, a business bank account, and depending on your customers, VAT registration, a B-BBEE affidavit, CSD registration and COIDA. After that, a credible name and identity, and one channel that reliably produces enquiries.
Businesses under R10 million annual turnover can generally use a sworn B-BBEE affidavit instead of a full verification certificate. Above that threshold, or where a specific buyer insists, a verified certificate is required.
The Central Supplier Database is the register government departments use to source suppliers. If you intend to sell to government or respond to public tenders, CSD registration is effectively mandatory.
No. We are not a regulator, attorney, accountant or SARS practitioner and we do not give legal, tax or financial advice. We provide practical support and guidance through these processes, and we say plainly when something needs a registered professional.
A clear description of the business and market, the offer and pricing, the operating model, the team, a realistic financial model with assumptions stated, and what the money will be used for. Funders reject plans that cannot answer those questions.
Yes. That is common. We check the current standing of the entity, identify what lapsed or was never done, and set out what is needed to bring it back to a position where you can trade and apply for work.
Usually not. Some founders only need registration support, others already have a registered entity and need a business plan for funding or a tender. The Growth Diagnostic identifies what actually applies to your stage.
Yes. Registration and compliance support is handled online, so it works the same in Mitchells Plain, Malmesbury, Mthatha, Kimberley or Sandton. We are based in Cape Town and work across South Africa.
Start. Stand Out. Grow.
Start it properly once, instead of fixing it later.
Tell us what has been done, what has not, and what you are trying to be ready for. We will come back with a clear read on what to fix first.
